I went to see Dirty Dancing: The Musical yesterday in Chicago with a friend of mine from the studio. It was the Premiere in the United States, first showing. It was a fantastic show. I have been a huge fan of the movie since I was a kid and now with my dancing background I was super curious about how they would put that on stage.
The set was phenomenal and the scene changes were amazing and efficient. The dancing was great, the music was great, Baby looked almost exactly like Jennifer Grey, but Johnny was a bit of a let down (but who wouldn't be after Patrick Swayze). The dance scene at the end was amazing and I was truly fighting back the urge to get up and dance. The crowd burst into applause during the two major lines (i carried a watermelon and nobody puts baby in the corner). I would highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the movie.
I have had a rough two weeks and it was a nice, out of the ordinary, upscale day for me. The tickets were gifted to Chris and I, by another dance person, so that was nice. They were way too expensive for me to have been able to attend otherwise. I didn't have to drive into the city like I was planning, and I learned a little bit how to drive a stick shift. A very relaxing and fun day after several stressful weeks.
However, having some difficulty concentrating at work today, as evidenced by this blog post from the computer in my office, but it was worth it. Next stop? Another trip to Chicago for the harvest moon dance competition. Then Blueman group? With most likely several more long nights at "round the clock".
